UF admissions recalculation rules
The University of Florida (UF) admissions office recalculates the high school GPAs of all applicants. This means the GPA listed on your high school transcript will not match the GPA UF uses to evaluate your application. UF recalculates applicant GPAs to ensure a completely level playing field, comparing students from different school districts equitably.
In UF's calculation system, points are awarded based on plus/minus grading scales (A = 4.00, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, etc.). Academic weight bumps are only awarded for courses where a grade of "C" or higher is earned. Dual Enrollment, AP, IB, and AICE classes get a +0.5 weight bump per class. Critically, UF does **not** grant any weight bump to Honors classes (they count the same as regular classes). The UF Recalculation Formula
UF recalculates GPA by taking core academic courses, converting grades to UF point values, adding +0.5 points for AP/IB/AICE/Dual Enrollment (if grade is C or higher), and dividing by the total core class count.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does UF not give weight to Honors classes?
UF's recalculated GPA guidelines only award weight to classes with standardized national curricula or college-level expectations. Dual enrollment, AP, IB, and AICE classes fall into this category. Because honors curricula vary wildly between high schools, UF excludes them from weighting.
Do electives like art or physical education count in the UF GPA?
No. UF only includes core academic courses on your transcript: English, Math, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and World Languages. Non-academic electives, gym, art, and music classes are stripped out and do not affect your recalculation.
What recalculated GPA is typically needed to get into UF?
UF is highly selective. For the middle 50% of admitted freshmen, the recalculated UF GPA usually ranges from 4.40 to 4.60. Students typically need a transcript filled with AP/IB and Dual Enrollment classes and mostly A grades to achieve this range.
